The Majesty Of Christ In Missions

“We are like batboys at Yankee Stadium who think the great point of the World Series is to hand the players a bat.  So I urge you in the name of Jesus to wake up, and enlarge your heart, and stretch your mind, and spread your wings.  Mount up above your limited life – yes, a very important life, which God does not diminish – and see the great and thrilling big picture of God’s global purposes for the history of the world that cannot fail.”  John Piper, Don’t Waste Your Life

The importance of missions really can’t be emphasized enough. For all of us who get lost in our daily lives and tend to lose sight of the big picture, missions are a critical way to get back to an eternal perspective.  And you don’t even have to go to Uganda!  You can do a mission trip right in your own city.  There are ample opportunities here and abroad to love on others, share the gospel and see God at work.

So in the spirit of promoting mission mindedness, SixtyFeet is planning to auction off 1 spot for one of our 2012 missions trips (which you can learn more about at www.visitingorphans.com).  The auction will take place next Saturday, October 22, and all proceeds will go to benefit a classical Christian school here in Atlanta (www.heritageprep.org). If you’re interested in bidding on this trip please let us know by emailing us at info@sixtyfeet.org and we can share more details (bidding will start at $1,500).

If you think you’re too busy and don’t have the time, or you don’t have the right talents and abilities, don’t worry.  God will take care of all that.  In fact, the busier you are the better!  If you want to watch God respond, then step out in faith when it sounds the craziest and watch God show up.   And if you’re nervous about the impact the trip may have on you – awesome.  One thing we can promise is that you will never be the same.

For those of you who have already visited with SixtyFeet, you can speak to the transformational experience and the powerful way in which God works in hearts during those trips.  We can’t tell you how many people say they can’t wait to get back.  Our prayer is that many more experience Christ in the mission field.

So even if you don’t participate in the auction, consider going on a local or international missions trip. Spend time in a context outside your normal routine.  Engage with others you ordinarily would not come in contact with.  Reflect the light of Christ in a dark and hopeless place.  Speaking from personal experience, you will bless others and be blessed yourself.

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”  Rom. 10:15
